Individual confesses to sexual crimes involving boys at summer camp
An individual who contaminated treats with sedative and distributed them to minors at a summer camp in Leicestershire has admitted sexual offenses against two boys aged nine and ten years old.
The defendant was taken into custody after eight youngsters and a grown-up experienced illness at the facility in July.
The elderly man, from the Nottinghamshire area, admitted guilt to a multiple criminal counts when he appeared at the judicial center on recently.
However, he disputed one particular crime he was accused of, which was against a nine-year-old child.
The defendant was held in detention ahead of a additional proceeding on late November.
'Candy game'
Mary Prior KC, presenting evidence, detailed the criminal behavior to the legal proceedings.
She stated his targets were under-privileged children who were staying at a youth camp which he ran.
The man played a "treat game" with the children, the prosecutor said, in which he would go into the boys' rooms when they were preparing to sleep and request they to eat sweets "as quickly as they can".
She stated to the judge Ruben had conducted this practice with the young males "for many years", and minors had previously become sick the following morning.
She explained Ruben had been capable of justifying this over a long period as the minors being "overexcited from fun", until his stepson had suspicions in July 2025.
Mrs Prior KC added: "Recently" his stepson had suspicions about what was going on, with valid cause.
"They resolved" to examine in the man's possessions."
Mrs Prior KC said objects including baby oil, ointment and medical needles were found, and his stepson alerted the authorities about his concerns.
She said the man went on to engage in the "candy game" with six youngsters that time - that Saturday - and they were all sick the following morning.
"Law enforcement" had not responded by that stage," she stated further.
The regulatory agency, the investigative body, earlier informed that it was reviewing the police response of the incident.
The legal representative stated the children were having difficulty walking due to their condition, so the stepson contacted the police again.
She explained Ruben then conducted the "sweet game" in a space of five minors.
